Group history

Our vocation for pharmaceutical chemistry goes a long way back and across four generations. Already in 1908 Pharmacist Felice Rebuzzini was awarded for his innovative approach to the profession. The tradition was carried forward by his son Giuseppe, who in 1953 founded AMSA SpA, a plant to manufacture Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients. Since then, a continuous growth and specialization ensued. Over the years, two more API manufacturing companies joined AMSA: Cosma SpA, founded in 1977 and Clarochem Ireland Lld, acquired in 2009. Members of the family are still actively involved in daily management of the companies, together with a team of skilled professionals.

A.M.S.A., Cosma and Clarochem Ireland are organized to exploit synergies and economies of scale through harmonization and/or unification of management, marketing, R&D, procurement and engineering teams. Furthermore, a corporate quality unit operates to ensure maximum consistency in quality approach across the three sites. This results in a high efficiency standard that consistently overperforms in productivity and quality of service.

AMSAS.p.A.

Based nearby the worldwide recognized beauties of Como Lake since 1953, when it was founded by Giuseppe Rebuzzini, AMSA is the first manufacturing company of the CFM group, although it was substantially renovated over the years. AMSA first gained US FDA approval in 1998. The production plant has a 60,000L capacity mostly utilized for small-medium volume APIs, in both generics and fast growing custom synthesis sector.

Cosma S.p.A.

Located in the area of Bergamo, northern Italy, it was founded in 1977 and developed with the specific aim to introduce CFM group into the USA generic market. Firstly approved in 1984 by US FDA, Cosma still sells above 50% of its entire production for such purpose. In addition to supporting global generic and brand pharmaceutical companies, Cosma has also developed a considerable presence in the animal health business, where it acquired a strong reputation by serving all the most important global players. With 130,000L capacity and above 300 tons APIs annual output, it is the largest site within the CFM group.

Clarochem Ireland Ltd

Following the acquisition of a state of the art chemical facility in Damastown, near Dublin, Clarochem was founded in 2009 to add approximetely 60,000L capacity to the group. With substantial room to expand, and after 2017 first US FDA approval, it is the perfect site for contract manufacturing opportunities but it has been also important to allow GMP starting materials and intermediates back-integration strategy to the benefit of all the companies in the group.
